Our connection with an outfit starts right from our childhood. From those cute little diaper showing skirts to wearing oversized t-shirt dresses, we somewhere grew up. A childhood memory that all of us can resonate with is holding the pallu of our mom’s saree and following her everywhere. Do you remember draping dupatte like a saree and trying on her jewellery used to be our favourite pastime?
From wanting to drape a saree to growing up hating to wear one, we have lost the true meaning and the beauty of this elegant piece of attire. We think of saree as an outfit that is backward, traditional and unappealing. While designers and brands have made constant effort reinvent the saree and make it acceptable as a preferred choice of attire by the millennials, there are still some of us who think saree is just for women who are homemakers and extremely traditional.
I cannot deny my love for sarees, especially silk and cotton sarees. Being born and brought up in Tamil Nadu, I have a special liking towards silk sarees. The elegance and poise that comes with the fabric is irreplaceable. It is great to see that Palam Silks has taken an effort into inducing kanjeevaram saree into the daily lives of the modern society. Their new collection ‘SWATANTRA’ is for the modern women who decide to be and do whatever they wish to. Their ideology was reflected in their work.
They recently launched four new range of sarees which was distinctive in their own way. The sarees are made with light-weight fabric, designer motifs and modern colour pallet. I would like to specially mention the well-styled show. The sarees were not only modern, but the wide-sleeved, cut-out blouses were a cherry on the cake. It just made me want to buy a saree for myself!
